Bits of both. If there is a large cast, there will usually be one or two people I know while the rest will be filled in by dream extras of varying levels of specificity. Sometimes a person I don't know is meant to be a best friend I never actually had, or every girl I've ever loved squished into one, or just members of a crowd. Mostly, I think, there are people. My dreams come in waves. It may be related to my menstrual cycle, or how deeply I sleep, although I've not tracked either yet. I will remember many of my dreams for a week, and then none at all for some time. My dreams change me, sometimes. I think of that as a kind of coming true. I do not dream of sex every time that I remember dreaming, but it is not a completely uncommon topic. They are in colour, but sometimes the colour is just there, not accomplishing anything, and sometimes it is bright, like jewels. Those dreams are almost always important. Sometimes dreams are only my head tossing ideas about. Sometimes they are more actively questioning or challenging or giving me hints. My nightmares also come in waves. Most of the time they are uncomfortable and unsettling more than terrifying, but I am afraid and sad when I wake from them.
