I think that blogging is really, deeply good. It helped teach me to write. It taught me about Iceland, and hurricanes, and motherhood. It gave me pen pals. It kept me connected with friends in cities where I no longer lived. It gave me friends at times that I hadn't many. I've crossed the country and the ocean to see people that I never would have known were it not for this place. I think that it is desperately important that people archive themselves, that people insist upon the validity of their lives in their own words. Marginalized people and survivors need this. Growing people need this. We all need this.

Unfortunately, I no longer have a working computer. I won't be coming here much anymore, if at all.

It is not that I will miss you, exactly, because I suspect that in one way or another, I will be staying in contact with quite a lot of you. But I will miss knowing your everyday. I will miss this place.

Should you miss me, know that for the foreseeable future, my life will look like this: every day I read books, and I drink tea. I cook food for and with my friends, and I walk across the city often. I do terrible things to fish.

Goodnight.

Yours always,

Jack
