would you happen to know anyone who is currently homeschooling or unschooling in the philadelphia area, or are you aware of any groups for such people? i'd like to talk to them, please.

my paid account is expiring in three days. usually this isn't much of a problem. i miss working.

i don't know if it helps, but i used to homeschool. i'll ask my mom if she still keeps in touch with any of the organizations she used to talk with.

i asked the mommy. she said that she is going to look into the old paperwork she has. apparrently there are some big convention-type things that come to the philly area.

remind me when i see you to poke her if she hasn't given me information yet :)

funny, i was just about to email you :)

she said: Here is a link to Pennsylvania homeschool organizations. The one that I am most familiar with is Pennsylvania Homeschoolers in Kittaning, PA. I used to get their newsletter, go to some of their functions and testing.

My mother practically started the unschooling movement in California. Which started the unschooling movement pretty much everywhere else. She was very active in the homeschooling/unschooling communities in her day. If you're honestly considering doing this, I think you may want to write my mother a letter asking her about it. She'd be able to give you adivce on how to go about it, the legality of certain things, she might have a few good books on the subject for you to read, that sort of thing. if you're interested, let me know.

Also, go to at least one Waldorf school and one Montessori school in your area and ask to take a tour. They are both different variations on what I would call "public unschooling". Waldorf is amazing in beliefs and tecniques and opinions on how children learn best and how to go about nuturing the natural way people learn, but they can get a little cult-ish. Montessori is a bit more mainstream in its goals, but is still worth checking out.

Even if you aren't interested in a "pubilc unschooling" sort of thing, listen to how they teach the kids, and why they do what they do. Thier philosphies might help influence yours.

And, of course, if you ever want my opinions on anything, I am always here to help.
