fish.

i like thinking of port towns, of pirates and sailors and whores, of spices and jewels and oddities. i like watching the women, circling and shopping and working. i like jokes about arsenic, and the threat of a poisonous spine. i like cutting up fish and mermaids' tails. i like the feel of it: the squish and the slime. i like cutting through bone with a knife and a hammer. i like my involvement in the death.

(to translate: i'm working at the fish market at whole foods, and thus far i'm enjoying it far more than i should.)
