for most of the past thirty-six hours, i have had you're so vain running around in my brain. this is all the fault of heather and the horrible music that was played in her car. life is awful.

kaitlin and alex and regina came to call last night. we were meant to play balderdash, but voted against it in favour of conversation, discussing, among other things, american regional divisions, the technicalities of anal fisting, the golden girls, grammar and the evolution of language, and the geography of the cervix. people began dropping off (a combined result of the late hour and the arsenic with which i'd laced the ice cream) and so alex took people home, and brought me to meet his apartment. this apartment is beautiful and huge and very tall with big windows. he played songs for me, and gave me books to have and to borrow. we talked, and then the sun rose for us. (blue, then purple, pink, then orange on the roof behind the cathedral of hope and the rest of the east.) it was really quite late or early, so after that he took me home. life is nice.

Sunrises are so very different from sunsets. They are always so alien to me. Beautiful, but disquieting.

Exactly. It is not quite the normal order of things.
